Many patients (or their parents) have asked us which option will be better for them. It really is a personal decision, so we thought we would provide some information to take with you to help you if you need time to consider your options.
BRACES
Braces. These are small metal pieces (also known as brackets) that are attached to the surface of a tooth and are joined together by a metal arch. This arch works by connecting and applying continuous pressure on the brackets to progressively move teeth into their desired positions. There are several different types of braces: metal, clear, lingual, and self-ligating. The common theme across all types of braces is that they are fixed in place.
ALIGNERS
Clear or invisible aligners are removable, 3D printed splints that are placed on top of the teeth and perform the same function as braces: correcting misalignments by applying continuous pressure.
When it comes to dental aligners vs braces effectiveness, aligners are just as capable of correcting orthodontic issues as braces.
Advantages of Clear Aligners:
Less noticeable on your teeth for a discreet look
Removable for easy cleaning and eating
No metal brackets or wires that can irritate cheeks/gums
May require fewer in-office visits than traditional braces
At Envisage Dental, we’re happy to perform an exam and recommend whether clear aligners or traditional braces may be better suited for your smile goals.
